WALK FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The finale of the seven week of festivities for the WED 2010 celebration will be the Walk For The Environment on Saturday, June 5th at the Gene Leahy Mall.

Following the Citizen's Roundtable on June 1st and the free screening of the film HOME on June 3rd, the Walk For The Environment on June 5th marks the end of Omaha's seven weeks of WED 2010 festivities.
The Walk will begin at Gene Leahy Mall in downtown Omaha (view map). The street between Farnam Street and Douglas Street at 14th street will be closed for the walk activities. In addition to the Walk around the downtown to enjoy the urban landscape and points of interest, environmental awareness activities and festivities are planned.
Booths representing non-profit and for profit organizations will be on display beginning at 9 a.m. and until after the post walk wind up at 1 p.m. Included in the exhibits will be the Alternative Transportation Exhibition that will showcase three electric vehicles, one with a solar recharging panel, one hooked to a Coulomb ChargePoint charging station, one Prius conversion, one CNG vehicle, and one vegetable oil conversion.
The Walk, which will commence after a short program at 11 a.m. will be led by Grand Marshall Don Preister, who is being honored as the WED 2010 Environmentalist of the Year. Don Preister, who is the cofounder of Joy Creations Greeting Card Co. Inc,. serves on the Bellevue city council. For 16 years Don was a member of the Nebraska legislature where he advocated for clean renewable energy, sustainable family farm practices, open accessible government and environmental stewardship. He co chairs the state Wind Working Group, Chairs the South Omaha Environmental Task Force and the Green Bellevue Committee and a board member of the Green Omaha Coalition.
Vendors can begin to set up a booth at 8:30 am, Take down will need to be completed by 1:30 p.m. If your organization would like to register for a booth at the Walk please complete the form here and submit it. There is no charge for an approved non-profit to have a booth and a $35 charge for approved for-profits to have a booth. WED 2010 is eager to have your participation.
